Leggett agent to run the Chamonix marathon in full army gear to raise money for "help for heroes"

David Lucas

David Lucas, our man in Chamonix, served with the Grenadier Guards for a number of years and is now raising money for the “help for heroes” charity.  He is doing this by attempting to run the Chamonix mountain marathon in full army gear.  That’s a 2,500m ascent, which usually takes amateurs between 7-9 hours to complete, carrying an extra 20 kgs (or 44 lbs in old money)!
David has been training hard since the start of the year but has been hampered by heavy snow and adverse weather conditions – indeed much of the course is still knee deep in snow with felled trees from the high winds. David describes it as more akin to an army assault course than a traditional mountain trail.
The run takes place on Sunday 1st July and David says:  “A week from the start of the event I will have a health/fitness test with a former TeamGB physio, but barring any serious injury (or cancellation due to inclement weather) I shall be completing the course on the day, come-what-may. If a postponment is forced, I shall reschedule to run the event solo”.
