French ski resorts: it’s not all downhill!

President Macron has said that the lifts in French ski resorts will not open until January 2021, but do not despair, there are a host of other things you might do in the fresh mountain air!

Many ski resorts are not just about downhill skiing, so consider the alternatives that might be on offer if you are visiting as a home-owner or maybe as a property hunter. Hiking, dog sledding, ice climbing, tobogganing –  might all be things you can try across different resorts. In Saint-Gervais, for example, the resort will welcome guests from December 15, 2020″, suggests the mayor, Jean-Marc Peillex.

The famous historic spa resort that has offered therapeutic activities for centuries offers a choice of natural and cultural attractions.  Ski touring has been growing in popularity – why not try it out this winter? Or what about Nordic skiing, most of the loops are accessible without ski lifts. In Saint-Gervais, again, in the absence of downhill skiing, there will be activities supervised by the Compagnie des Guides such as guided snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Another example, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, above La Mongie, is the Pic du Midi cable car in Bigorre, going up to a scientific observatory, which will be open.
