Hundreds of sandy beaches, fabulous seafood, sailing and surfing, why not take a look at the Vendée in western France?
The Vendee is a fabulous part of France with some great little port towns such as St Gilles Croix-de-Vie. There are watersports along the coastline with surfing meccas like Bretignoles-sur-Mer; the start of the Vendée Globe yacht race at Les Sables-d’Olonne and forest-lined beaches looking across to pretty islands (it’s not far from the chic Ile de Re either). You can reach the region by taking the ferry to St Malo (3 hours drive) or fly to Nantes, Poitiers or La Rochelle. And the property? The average price in the Vendée is €1,820/m², according to our agent Suzanne Goodall, and you can get a nicely renovated four-bed stone longere with a pool 30 minutes from the beach for €318,000.
